HerInfluence Exclusive: Meghana Kaushik on Craft, Confidence, and Carving Her Own Space in Indian Cinema

From Neerja to Love, Lust & Confusion, Meghana Kaushik has proven time and again that versatility is her strongest suit. An actress, writer, and creator, she continues to inspire with her talent and authenticity. In this exclusive conversation with HerInfluence, Meghana opens up about her journey, challenges, and what it truly means to build a career on your own terms.

Q: Meghana, take us back to the beginning. How did your journey into acting really start?

Meghana: Iโ€™ve always been creatively inclined, even in school, I loved reading, performing, and being part of plays. Theatrics were my comfort zone. My friends encouraged me to take the leap into acting, even when there were societal hesitations around it. Once I began doing TV commercials, I knew this was where I belonged. There was no looking back after that.

Q: Balancing a demanding career in entertainment and personal life is never easy. How have you managed that?

Meghana: Honestly, it took me time to find that balance. In the early years, I often sacrificed personal time for work โ€” constantly trying to prove myself. But as I grew and diversified my career, I realized the importance of mental peace and personal happiness. Now, I have multiple creative avenues and financial stability, which allow me to choose my pace and priorities without guilt.

Q: Youโ€™ve often spoken about โ€œcreating your own opportunities.โ€ What does that mean to you?

Meghana: In a competitive industry like ours, you canโ€™t just wait for the phone to ring. I started producing TV commercials and short films, doing voice-overs, presenting shows, and creating social media content. I love writing, too. Exploring all these sides of myself has given me confidence as a woman and a creator, not just an actress.

Q: What have been some of the biggest challenges along the way, and how did you overcome them?

Meghana: There were times when I struggled with self-doubt, about my looks, my social skills, and the superficial nature of the industry. But I realized that everyone has insecurities. I decided to focus on my strengths and work smart. Thatโ€™s been my mantra ever since, persistent, smart work beats perfection every time.

Q: You use your platform to speak about social causes. What inspires that side of you?

Meghana: I believe in using whatever visibility I have for good. I speak up for kindness towards animals, nature conservation, and womenโ€™s empowerment, causes that are very close to my heart. My content and lifestyle reflect those values. Itโ€™s fulfilling to know that what I share can make even a small difference.

Q: Letโ€™s talk about your most memorable projects. What roles have shaped you the most?

Meghana: Neerja was a turning point for me. Working with such a talented team taught me a lot. Then came Love, Lust & Confusion, where I played Nikita, that role really helped me open up as an actor. And my short film The Door received so much love, especially from women and the LGBTQ+ community. It reaffirmed my belief that powerful scripts can create real impact.

Q: Youโ€™ve often credited your Army upbringing for your discipline. How does that influence your lifestyle today?

Meghana: Immensely! Iโ€™m quite disciplined, I work out regularly, meditate, do yoga, and eat healthy. For me, mental health is as important as physical fitness. Having a good support system and keeping your mind calm are essential when you work in such a high-pressure industry.

Q: The OTT revolution has changed the entertainment landscape. How do you see this shift?

Meghana: Itโ€™s an incredible time, especially for women. OTT has opened doors for nuanced storytelling and strong female-led scripts. Iโ€™m currently developing a few women-centric projects and even looking at direction in the near future. Of course, social media influencers bring new competition, but I think thatโ€™s healthy, itโ€™s pushing everyone to evolve and stay authentic.

Q: Whatโ€™s your advice to aspiring actors and creators who look up to you?

Meghana: Rejection is part of the process, donโ€™t let it break you. Keep working, stay patient, and always keep a secondary income stream if needed. Most importantly, remain humble, curious, and keep learning. Set high standards for yourself, but donโ€™t forget to enjoy the journey.

Q: Finally, what can we expect from you next?

Meghana: Iโ€™m currently working on something special, canโ€™t reveal much yet, but itโ€™s a project close to my heart. Apart from that, Iโ€™m writing more and collaborating with some amazing people. My focus right now is on staying happy, healthy, and creatively fulfilled.
